Consecrating your magic tools

You will need the following to correspond to the cardinal elements and directions:
North/Earth: - 1 Small bowl of salt
East/Air: - 1 Stick of incense (white sage)
South/Fire: - 1 White candle
West/Water: - 1 Cup of water

Cast a circle (see casting a circle) light  your candle and incense, choose the first tool you want to consecrate and face North pass it over the bowl of salt and repeat the following:

"Powers of the North,
Guardians of the Earth,
I consecrate this (name the tool)
and charge it with your energies.
I purify it this night, and make this tool sacred".

Then turn and face east and hold the tool in the smoke of the incense and repeat the following:
"Powers of the East,
Guardians of the Air,
I consecrate this (name the tool)
and charge it with your energies.
I purify it this night, and make this tool sacred".

Now turn and face South and pass the tool over the flame of the candle and repeat the following:
"Powers of the South,
Guardians of Fire,
I consecrate this (name the tool)
and charge it with your energies.
I purify it this night, and make this tool sacred".

Now turn and face West and pass the tool over the cup of water and repeat the following:
“Powers of the West,
Guardians of Water,
I consecrate this (name the tool)
and charge it with your energies.
I purify it this night, and make this tool sacred”.

Now face your altar, hold the tool to the sky, and recite the following:

I charge this (name the tool) in the name of Old Ones,
the Ancients, the Sun and the Moon and the Stars.
By the powers of the Earth, of Air, of Fire and of Water
I banish the energies of any previous owners,
and make it new and fresh.
I consecrate this (name the tool)
and it is mine.

You have now consecrated that tool; follow the same procedure with your other altar tools. When complete they can now be used and it is tradition to use them immediately to bind your energies to them even further.
Any item can be consecrated, this includes personal jewellery, and even clothes that you choose to wear for any ritual work. Just be aware of anything flammable being passed over the candle flame, use judgement, and good sense with all your magical workings.
Don’t allow anyone else to handle your tools for the recommended six months. Work with them as much as possible, this is to ensure your energies are fully absorbed.

Preparing for rituals or spell casting

Dress your chosen candles prior to the ritual (see dressing the candle) with the appropriate oils or recipe. Basic recipes are listed further down this page under dressing the candle.
Clean and clear the area you have chosen to work in removing animals, toys etc so your space is clear to work in. The area should then be smudged including the corners, windows and any doorways.  Use either incense that corresponds to your intended purpose or a good cleansing incense of white sage.

Prepare your pre ritual bath and when that is ready, leave it and prepare the following:
Set up your altar before with everything you need and lay out the circle if you need to have it marked out. You can mark your circle out with chalk, yarn, ribbon or something similar (until you get use to using your hand or tools to cast the circle with pure energy).

The altar should be placed inside the circle – facing north (in the northern hemisphere or south facing in the southern hemisphere) preferably at the centre or in the east position. Set up an altar (see basic altar layout).

Mark the four cardinal points of your circle with corresponding objects; you can use all white candles/ coloured ones or the symbols that represent the quarters if you want to keep it simple. Remember to observe the area for any fire risks if you choose to use candles, and put them on something fire proof (a saucer would do just as well as any other container).

North: Green for the element of Earth –Wolf – Crystal Green Agate - Angel Uriel
East: Yellow for the element of Air – Eagle – Crystal Amethyst – Angel Raphael
South: Red for the element of Fire – Dragon – Crystal Red Tigers Eye – Angel Michael
West:  Dark blue for the element of Water – Turtle – Crystal Lapis lazuli - Angle Gabriel

Casting the Circle

Centre yourself and use your wand, athame, or hand to visualise and build a ball of energy at the end of the wand or fingers. You will be drawing the circle three times, follow this sequence:

Begin at the Eastern point and walk clockwise around the area designated for your circle. In your mind see the circle as geometrically perfect white light circle and say to yourself that it is.

Start the second drawing of the circle back at the East and repeat the following aloud:

"I cast this circle to protect from all negative and positive energies and forces on any level that may come to do me harm. I draw into this circle only the energies and forces that are right for me and the most correct for my work."

Start the third drawing of the circle back at the East and repeat the following aloud:

"I create sacred space. So mote it be."

Calling the Quarters

Invoke the four directions one by one using the energies that you are most comfortable with either angels or elementals powers that reside in the quadrants. Point using the athame, wand, or index finger whilst calling them. Wait until you sense something to give an indication that it has arrived (it could be just a slight feeling) then light the candle of that quarter before moving on and calling the next.

“Welcome, O Guardian of the Watchtower of the East, power of air, and intellect. I pray that you will be with me this night in my circle, and that you will give your blessings, and your aid to this my undertaking! I bid you a fond welcome.”

“Welcome, O Guardian of the watchtower of the south, Power of Fire and Manifestation. I pray that you will be with me this night in my circle, and that you will give your blessings, and your aid to this my undertaking! I bid you a fond welcome”.

“Welcome O Guardian of the watchtower of the West, power of Water and Emotion.
I pray that you will be with me this night in my circle, and that you will give your blessings, and your aid to this my undertaking! I bid you a fond welcome.”

“Welcome O Guardian of the watchtower of the North, Power of Earth, and Integration. I pray that you will be with me this night in my circle, and that you will give your blessings, and your aid to this my undertaking! I bid you a fond welcome.”

Perform the spell or ritual
Ring the bell once before you start your spell
Ring the bell once at the end of your spell

Dismiss the quarters by saying the following (never forget to do dismiss the quarters otherwise they will make their presence known):

“Guardians of the Watchtower of the North
I thank you for your presence here tonight.
I thank you for your aid, and your guidance.
May there be peace between us always.
Go if you must stay if you will.
I bid you hail and farewell”

“Guardians of the Watchtower of the West
I thank you for your presence here tonight.
I thank you for your aid, and your guidance.
May there be peace between us always.
Go if you must stay if you will.
I bid you hail and farewell”.

“Guardians of the Watchtower of the South
I thank you for your presence here tonight.
I thank you for your aid, and your guidance.
May there be peace between us always.
Go if you must stay if you will.
I bid you hail and farewell.”
“Guardians of the Watchtower of the East
I thank you for your presence here tonight.
I thank you for your aid, and your guidance.
May there be peace between us always.
Go if you must stay if you will.
I bid you hail, and farewell.”

Hold out the wand, athame, or index finger over the circumference of the circle beginning at magnetic north. Walk once around the circle counter clockwise as you recite the following:

“Opening the Circle
As above, So below.
As the universe, So the soul.
As without, So within.
The circle is open but not unbroken
So Mote It Be!”

Cutting a Door

At sometime you might have to leave the circle for a particular reason; this means you will have to create a door to go through as you cannot just leave the circle. Using one of your tools or your hand make a doorway in the air across the line of the circle, step through it and close it the say way you opened it from inside the circle. When you come back in cut the doorway again enter the circle turn and close the doorway the same way you opened it from the outside.

How to dress a candle

Anoint the candle with oil and essential oil mix (check essential oils and toxicity table below for mixing your own recipes or any others that are listed here). Start working the mix at the centre of the candle, first stroking up to the top near the wick whilst concentrating on your intention for a few minutes. Then repeat stroking from the top back down all the way to the base again concentrating on your intention.

Candle Flipping

To flip a candle is to cut off a portion of the candle where the exposed wick is, this is called the head. Cut away the wax on the opposite end exposing the wick, this is then called the foot. Candles burned upside down in this manner are designed to be used to move things away from you. Just as candles burned upright draw things towards you.

Planetary Hours

Monday: Day of the Moon Tuesday: Day of Mars Wednesday: Day of Mercury
Thursday: Day of Jupiter Friday: Day of Venus Saturday: Day of Saturn Sunday: Day of the Sun

The planet that rules the first hour of each day is always the same as the planet that rules the day. Each planetary hour of the planetary day is ruled by a different planet, so the planet that rules the first hour of the day is also the ruler of the whole day. The planetary hours always fall in this order: Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun...So if the first hour of the Day of Mercury is the Hour of Mercury, the second hour of this day is the Hour of the Moon. The planetary hours are specific to your exact location so you can calculate approx by identifying the first hour of the day which is Sunrise and the first hour of the night is Sunset. The times can be found on the local weather sites or the newspapers. To define the length of one Night Hour we take the period of time from the sunset to the next sunrise and divide it by 12.
