(Basic Chakra Clearing)       (Other Sanskrit Associations)      (More Symbols)       (Mantras for the Chakras)

The Chakras and their different systems and meanings for healing purposes.

Part One

Chakras rulerships in the body

Part Two   Part Three   Part Four

Note for advanced students.

When dealing more in depth concerning the chakras, you will notice that the rulerships are in a different order. The reason for this is to synthesize Chiron (our wounds& gifts)  which then includes the outer planets which are activated at critical times in a persons lifetime:-

As we open and rise through each chakra point, at the right time when the crown chakra is ready can we come in to contact with the transpersonal point which opens access to the outer planets and activates Chiron.

These planets rule what some call the Akashic records (which gives knowledge and understanding of all things including past, present and future) which is why they are so important to people wanting to increase their development for knowledge only rather than healing purposes.

Basic associations with the planets

Starting in order from lowest chakra to highest

Saturn is the planet which rules the base chakra and is represented by the colour red.

This area is our balance point - in other words our basic foundations or roots and how we learn and take responsibility for our actions. When we are children this area is affected by how we see people who have authority over us and later in life how we respond to figures of authority.

Jupiter is the planet which rules the sacral chakra and is represented by the colour orange.

This area is our sexual centre where growth and development is promoted through relationship issues with ourselves and others. This is where we take risks by interacting in physical, emotional, mental or spiritual matters. Reaching outside of ourselves is the only way we can grow, gain knowledge for continued expansion and receive encouragement to achieve and broaden our outlook.

Mars is the planet which rules the solar plexus and is represented by the colour yellow.

Here is where our energy is stored and this point represents how we use our personal power and energy for assertive action embodying the male energy principles. This point also teaches us how to handle others to get what we want and how we react to power struggles or physical demands as we draw nearly all our personal and emotional energy from this area.

Sun is the planet which rules the heart chakra and is represented by the colour green.

Our essential self or ego resides here and prompts us to express ourselves in order to feel centered. In accepting and expressing our personality it then means we can understand who and what we are. This then leads to tolerance and acceptance of other people.

Venus is the planet that rules the throat chakra and is represented by the colour sky blue.

This point gives us the art of communication within relationships that is primarily concerned with truth and integrity, the ability for expressing appreciation and love. This centre also embodies the feminine principle of knowledge and wisdom.

Mercury is the planet that rules the brow centre and is represented by the colour indigo.

Here is the point that is the third eye and gives us mental energy for vision and all forms of communication. It is from this area that we can work to free ourselves from mistaken views as we learn to think and search for inspiration and truth.

Moon rules the crown chakra and is represented by the colour amethyst.

This point relates to the energy of the universal spirit and our personal unconscious, which involves our instinctive emotional reactions learned through early childhood experiences. This area is where we are highly sensitive and our expectations are projected outwards to others including prejudices and habits that we struggle to master or break free from as we become more aware of our early conditioning.

Method for basic Chakra Clearing.

Find somewhere comfortable where you will not be disturbed, use whatever music or smells that you find relaxing. When you are ready imagine a soft light (white, gold, violet) coming down through the top of your head and wrapping itself around you. Relax and enjoy the feeling then begin to shift your focus to your genital area, imagine the colour red growing stronger in that area until you can visualize the colour as strong and vibrant.

Then move up to the next point and see the colour associated with that point coming in until it is glowing, continue to do this through each and every point until you have finished at the crown.

When you have finished bringing the colour through the crown, see yourself standing there surrounded in light with each chakra glowing with its own colour at the relevant point on the body. Protect and close each chakra by visualizing the colour fading and then spend a few minutes surrounding the body with protective light. After doing this a few times it will get easier and easier, eventually it will become an automatic process and you can take to the next level. The benefits of doing this basic clearing should not be underestimated, you will start to see and feel a difference very quickly. If you have difficulty visualizing colours just think of the name of the colour as it holds the vibration of the colour itself and by doing this the colour will eventually come through.

Part Three

Other Sanskrit or Bija’s associations to the Chakras:

Muladhara (Root or Base Chakra)

The Root is situated at the base of the spine in the coccyx area, this chakra manifests through the testes in men and the pelvic area in women. Traditionally this point is associated with sexual function and relationships through it’s interaction with the Sacral/Swadhisthana chakra and this is where sexual dysfunctions are implicated. This point also influences the legs and has a relation to the sense of smell.

Swadhisthana (Sacral Chakra)

All bodily fluids are balanced through this point, Physiologically related to the adrenal glands (not the actual physical position), the kidneys and the hypogastric plexus (this plexus deals with the lymphatic's from all the pelvic viscera, from the deeper parts of the perineum, situated in the Sacral region of the spine). It is this point that is concerned with imbalance of fluids such as edema, anemia, anuria, polyuria, sexual fluids etc., the arms and the sense of taste are also connected to this point.

Manipura (Solar Plexus)

Connected to the Lumbar region of the spine which is physically evident as the Solar Plexus, the glands most connected with this chakra are the pancreas, spleen and liver. The Solar Plexus has been called the secondary brain, its importance psychosomatically should not be under estimated, and will be fully appreciated by anyone who has suffered from stomach cramps or butterflies because of emotional tension, this area under sustained tension can bring a range of ailments from ulcers to gallstones. The anus and eyes are also influenced by this point.

Anahata (Heart Chakra)

The centre of “unstruck sound” is located between the upper Thoracic vertebrae and manifests through the cardiac plexus and the thymus gland. Heart problems such as palpitations, tachycardia, up to angina pectoris and even cardiac infarction have been suggested as falling within the domain of this chakra point. Secondary factors include any disorders of the lungs. This point encompasses the entire tactile response from the skin and the procreative genital function.

Vishuddha (Throat Chakra)

This centre is also known as “with purity” is the last of the chakras rooted upon the spinal column (cervical or neck vertebrae in this case). The Thyroid and parathyroid glands as well as the pharyngeal (throat) plexus and vocal chords are the physical manifestations associated with this point. The Thyroid which can be either over or under active will be accelerated in some people because of stress, this area also is connected to speech disorders and deafness. Vishuddha has the ears as the sensory input.

Ajna (Third eye Chakra)

Known as the “Command” centre it is situated where the eyebrows would meet if extended and internally where the pituitary gland rests in the “Turkish Saddle” ( a bony box in the middle of the head). Ajna is known as the third or all seeing eye and may be logically related to the nasociliary plexus (branch of the ophthalmic nerve) and the frontal lobes of the brain. This point is very interesting as it is considered to be the overseer of most of the other ductless glands (endocrine system). It should also be noted that this point is related to the pineal gland.

Sahasrara (Crown Chakra)

Also known as the Thousand- petaled centre, this is in reference to the thousands and thousands of brain cells contained within the cerebrum, to which Sahasrara corresponds. The gland connected with this point is the pineal – about which there is too little known but again is a highly interesting point.
