Reiki Healing is the fastest growing
complimentary therapy that is suitable for anyone to learn or use.
Reiki is NOT an alternative treatment for
conventional medicine, rather it enhances and compliments recognized therapies
and orthodox medical practices. This is a hands on complimentary therapy, it is
not a massage and you have to keep your clothes on. The only thing you take off
are your shoes,
glasses, jewelry or metal belts. It might be an idea to take out any
personal piercing
before you come for your treatment and wear comfortable
clothes.
Reiki is an ancient and simple healing
technique that is both powerful and gentle at the same time. It is very
effective in many different types of illnesses whether they are caused by
physical, mental or emotional problems. The healing process begins with the very
first treatment allowing the recipient to be more relaxed mentally and
physically than could be achieved normally.
Naturally successive treatments increase
and further enhance the feeling of relaxation and calmness, this is turn allows
the recipient to cope with whatever is happening in their life and gives them a
sense of strength to cope.
Reiki helps to deal with trauma and other
personal issues and well as remove blockages that have held the recipient from
moving forward with their life, this leaves the recipient re-energized with a
renewed clarity of mind.
Within the UK Reiki has been available
for a while, unfortunately in the past it’s availability has been restricted
and combined with artificially high prices for treatments and teaching, which
was to preserve an air of mystique and exclusivity about it. That has now
changed due to the independent masters who believe in the original concept of
Reiki being available to all and that those who would benefit greatly from this
treatment have been in the past deprived through lack of knowledge about its
existence or because of high prices.
The
Treatment
The
treatment plan is usually worked out on the initial consultation, when
information including any medications or previous health problems will be noted
and
treatment takes about 40 minutes in total and consists of the Reiki practitioner
gently laying their hands on the twelve points of the body. Each point takes
about 5mins to work on, this is a standard treatment but is always
tailored to the individual clients needs.
What
to expect
Usually
the treatment room will be warm and comfortable with relaxing music and a lot of
practitioners use incense
or some form of aroma in the room to aid relaxation. Treatments are carried out
normally on a therapists bed or seated if preferred
depending on the client's preference and physical condition. Client's usually
report feeling different sensations anything from heat, tingling or coldness. In
certain cases sometimes on the initial treatment the client may not feel that
much, this is usually due to blockages and does not effect how the Reiki works.
The
client usually starts feeling the opening of the body at a later stage but they
will have noticed some effects within the three days after initial treatment. It
is quite common for people to experience all kinds of thoughts and images as
they receive their treatment, this is the brain decluttering. You do not go
asleep or into any form of hypnotic trance and are totally aware of everything
that is going on. When the treatment is finished you might be slightly light
headed and could also feel slightly heavy, so it is advisable to allow time to come around properly before you
drive as reflexes
will be out of sync. It is also important to have a glass of water as this helps
the system start the detoxification process that will continue over the
following three days. During that time the client will have different types of
symptoms as the body's energy centers
start to open, here is a list of commonly reported symptoms during this period:-
Feeling
Lighter/happier/emotional/quieter/headache/needing the toilet more
often/sleeping better/very energetic/relaxed/thought processes seem clearer or sharper-colours
seem brighter/more tolerant of people. Sometimes there are major blocks in
the body and the detoxifying
symptoms will be more magnified but subside very quickly.
The
list goes on but most of these are common signs that the body is starting to detoxify.
People generally start to feel the benefits very quickly during the three day period
and can't wait to have their next session as the difference is noticeable not only
to the client but to their immediate family and friends. It is usually
recommended to have three treatments which will enable the body to start righting
itself, after that it's up to
the client as to when they want other treatments. People usually then have
treatments as and when they become
stressed or just need a boost. Most people tend to train because of the
benefits they have felt so they can do Reiki for themselves and family, and to
be honest it's actually cost effective as well as a skill that can be used for
the rest of your life. If there is a health condition that requires more
treatments again most practitioners will advise training so the person can
maintain for themselves and can have the support and advice of the person they
trained with.

Questions and
answers;-
What
is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) means
“Rei”; Universal and “Ki”; Life force or life energy.
Reiki was rediscovered at the end of the
19th century by it’s founder Dr. Mikao Usui, the uniqueness of this
therapy is that natural energy is channeled through a trained Reiki practitioner
to the receiver, unlike other healing methods
that draw from the healer’s
personal energy to the recipient.
Classed as an Holistic treatment the word
Holistic means treating the whole person i.e.; mind, body, spirit, not just an
illness or disease. The channeled energy flows directly to where it is most
needed thereby increasing the body’s ability to heal and rebalance itself.
Is
this some form of religion, sect or society?
No, it has no connection to religion,
brainwashing cults or sects which is why it is open to anyone, no matter what
faith or philosophy you have
or haven't got.
Sounds
a bit strange, what do you mean by energy?
Well here’s trying to keep this simple
without going into the more scientific side-, which we will do later in a
separate section if it appeals to you under the heading of science and energy.
All living things are made of energy and as human beings, our energy
fields are constantly fluctuating as we are exposed to everything around us.
This HEF (human energy field) is made up from electrical, thermal, audio and
visual information from our physical bodies that we receive or give out, which
then in turn affect us mentally, emotionally or psychically. In Reiki, we use
Chakras, which are the body’s natural energy centers
(Chakra is a Sanskrit
word for wheel or vortex) that are connected to different areas and organs of
the body. A similar process is involved with reflexology or acupuncture;
these therapies use energy pathways or meridians, which need to
be kept flowing correctly as blocks eventually lead to illness
and disease.
If
that’s the case and we all have energy fields, why is Reiki different from
normal energy?
Good question!
Right I’ll explain
it
basically,
when you encounter Reiki during a treatment your body’s energy centers
are
opened and given a boost by the Reiki practitioner. When I was working in
Australia one of the Master’s over there once described it as “hooking up
the flat battery of a car to a pair of jump leads on another car, which then
gives a much needed jolt to get going again”.
It’s a good analogy as the Reiki
practitioner’s energy points or chakras have been opened by something called
an attunement process
which is given by a Reiki Master, this
means they are permanently charged ready to give
the recipient a much needed boost!
This I have to say is the most simple
explanation I’ve ever heard and although not poetical it sums it up
succinctly, by the way this is one of the reasons I love Australians as they say
it as they see it.
When
I went for a treatment which I enjoyed by the way, the lady said her guide was
an alien and she worked with missing symbols as it was a special form of Reiki-
it freaked me a bit. What did she mean by special Reiki? (not the alien bit) as
I liked the E.T. film anyway.
Sorry but I’ll try and answer this when
I’ve finished laughing I just need a moment to compose myself!
Reiki is Reiki doesn’t matter what you
call it, there are many branches that people have formed over the years to make
it better or as your lady put it "more
special".
Like anything else in this world when a
group form there has to be something special
or different that make them stand out from any
other group. During my travels, I have met many different people who claim all
kinds; I take it all with a pinch of salt. The only thing I’m interested in is
whether it works or not and how, as I specialize in the mind, body connection.
This is one of the reasons that I work as
an Independent Master and keep away from some of the more unusual branches of
this therapy,
the Usui system is the original and doesn’t need improving or
adding to.
I
now have a sudden urge to watch E.T again !
Is
it safe for children as my child has had a lot of emotional problem, and I’ve
been told that Reiki would be helpful?
It
is safe for children as they haven’t built up as many problems as adults have,
so their systems are easier to work with and they respond quicker. Again, when
concerning any treatment whether you are man, woman or child please makes sure
you have someone with you this will guard against any potential problems or
impropriety.
Are there any conditions where Reiki
can’t be used?
A few which are precautionary, if someone
has a form of epilepsy you tend to not treat the head area because of the brain
wave pattern,
Reiki lowers the waves to a very low cycle but other areas of
the body can be treated effectively. Usually at a later stage when the body has
adjusted the head can be included with short periods on the points and the time
extended. Most epileptics have responded positively with a noticeable decline in
episodes. Obviously, someone undergoing chemotherapy would not receive a full
body treatment, as the Reiki energy will enhance the drugs effects including its
side effects. But apart from common sense i.e.; don’t use on a suspected
broken bone until the client has been seen by a qualified medical professional,
or standard first aid measures Reiki can be used in most cases. Any concerns
with health issues are discussed with the Reiki practitioner prior to
treatment and again I must stress it cannot be used instead of proper medical
treatment.

Science
& Reiki
Throughout
history science has been trying to establish the type of energy emitted from our
bodies and a way of measuring it effectively.
The vital energy perceived as a
luminous body was first recorded in western literature by the Pythagoreans in
approx 500 BC, their belief was that this light could produce a variety of
effects in the human organism including curing illness. In the early 12th
century the scholars Boirac and Liebault saw that humans have an energy that can
cause an interaction between individuals at a distance. They reported that one
person can have a healthy or
unhealthy
effect on another simply by their presence. Paracelsus in the middle ages called
this energy “Illiaster” and concluded that it was composed of both a vital
force and matter. Helmont the mathematician in the 1800 visualized
a universal
fluid that pervades all nature and is not a corporeal or condensable matter but
a pure spirit that penetrates all bodies. Other properties of the universal
energy were observed by Helmont and Mesmer who originated Mesmerism which was
later called hypnotism. They reported that animate and inanimate objects could
be charged through this field and exert an influence over each other. This
suggested that a field in some way may exist that is similar to an
electromagnetic field. Later Count Wilhelm Von Reichenbach spent 30 years during
the mid 1880’s experimenting with the field which he called “the Odic
force”, he found that it exhibited many properties that were similar to the
electromagnetic field. In 1911
Dr.William Kilner a medical doctor reported his study of the Human Energy Field;
he found that the appearance of the “aura” as he called it differs
considerably from subject to subject depending on age, sex, mental ability and
health. Certain diseases showed as patches or irregularities in the aura which
led him to develop a system of diagnosis on the basis of colour, texture, volume
and general appearance. In the mid 1900’s Dr. George La Warr and Dr. Ruth Drown built new instruments to detect radiations from living tissues this was
called Radionics, he developed a system of detection utilizing
the human biological energy field. His most impressive works were the
photographs taken using the patient’s hair, these photographs showed internal
formations of diseases in living tissue, such as tumors,
cysts within the Liver and malignant brain tumors.
To
jump forward slightly to more recent times and the development of science within
the fields
of energy there have been leaps and bounds. Some years ago a group of
soviet scientists from the Bio information Institute announced the discovery
that living organisms emit energy vibrations between 300 and 2,000 nanometers.
They called this energy the bio field or bio plasma, they found that persons
capable of successful bio energy transfer have a much wider and stronger bio
field. These findings have been confirmed at the Medical
Science
Academy
in Moscow and are supported by research in Great Britain, the Netherlands,
Germany and Poland.
Our
old world of solid objects and the deterministic laws of nature is now
dissolving into a world of wave-like particles of interconnections.
The whole universe is a web
of inseparable energy patterns.
A
simple thought as an important consequence of Einstein’s relativity is that
matter and energy are interchangeable. Mass is nothing but a form of energy and
Matter is simply slowed down or crystallized
energy and our bodies are made up from many different forms of it.
So
if we define the human energy field which is made up from electrostatic,
electromagnetic, sonic, thermal and visual information, you can see by being
able to measure the different fields how underlying problems can be
found. It is
from this type of research that some of the machines used for diagnostics have
come into existence thereby continuing to explore and redefine the way we think.
Energy can be measured and with Reiki we work within the recipient’s energy
field whilst transmitting Reiki which consists of light wave particles. These
light emissions have been identified as Bioplasma
or Biofields, hopefully you
may now understand a bit better as to how the interaction of the recipients
energy field is changed when in contact with another larger stronger field
producing a third energy or Bio plasma. The resulting
Biofield
which has an
effect is well documented with having varying healing properties for both the
recipient and the practitioner; this is where for once 1+1=3.
Just
a
quick note concerning heat and Reiki;-
Heat
is produced due to molecular stimulation:- with energy the greater the heat at a
transfer point will indicate a greater resistance to that energy transfer.
Therefore the greater the heat the more resistance in that body to that energy
transfer.
Hence
the more heat from a practitioners hands indicates a channel that is not clear
from resistance, one needs however to consider the yin and yang principles that
male energy tends to be stronger (more push not power) creating more heat at
that transfer point. Therefore the goal as a practitioner is to create a higher
energy flow with the same or less heat through the hands or other chosen
transfer point.
Now
let's put that into English !
Given
to me by a good friend:- let's take an ordinary 100 watt light bulb, it gives 5%
light and 95% heat. Therefore even though we see the light and think we are
getting the 100 watts it is only 5% light - leading to 95% wastage. Same
principle with Reiki concerning heat, this is why it is important for
practitioners to work with the energy and refine it to increase efficiency-it is
already powerful as it stands! Methods to do this are taught alongside the
different levels of training
Under
Testimonies are people's real life experiences in their own words.
